Club Survey

The NSW Bridge Association will be conducting a survey of representatives of affiliated clubs, commencing this Monday 19 September.

As we have previously advised, the NSWBA is seeking feedback directly from club representatives to provide input into a "where should we be in five years" warts and all review of strategy. Your insights will help ensure that the research will deliver valuable data to help NSWBA better understand your needs so that it can focus its activities on the services that are most important to your club.

Your feedback will also help to shape future activities and marketing so that we can best help you address your needs and challenges as bridge clubs and can look to ensuring the future of bridge in NSW.

As a way of saying thank you, every club that completes the survey will have the chance to go into a draw to win two free entries to the 2023 State Open Pairs.

Think: Insight & Advice and Survey Matters, two independent research agencies, have been engaged to conduct the survey on behalf of the NSWBA so you can be sure that your answers will remain confidential. I encourage you to provide us with honest and objective feedback.

Chairman

New South Wales Strikes Gold in Adelaide

In the 2022 Interstate Teams competition our teams acquitted themselves with distinction.

The Open, Women's and Seniors teams all won their events. The Youth was in the hunt with one match to go but suffered a loss to finish third.

It was an exciting last 12 boards with the Open team withstanding a surging Victoria to win by 4 imps; the Women's team was 1 imp ahead with 12 boards to go but surged to win by 17 imps; and the Seniors team held off a fast-finishing ACT team to win by 9 imps.

The presentation stage was a sea of blue as our teams accepted their trophies in their State jackets.

Congratulations to the teams

NSW Online Pairs League

In July, NSWBA launched the NSW Online Pairs League, a state-wide IMPs Pairs competition particularly aimed at non-metropolitan players, which was played on the RealBridge platform every Thursday night for 8 weeks. The Winter season results are on the NSWBA website - the event was a real hit with those who participated! The Spring season commences on 6 October. This flyer has detailed information.

Here are some reasons you should really want to play:

  • short (12 board) sessions (start at 7:30 pm, no more than 1.5 hours)
  • separate divisions for players at every level
  • a full round-robin with North-South and East-West winners in each division (a truly fair IMPs pairs event)
  • lots of social interaction
  • half-price entry (only $20/player for 8 weeks - what a bargain) for less experienced players (<100 masterpoints) whom NSWBA is keen to encourage
  • Red masterpoints
  • substitutes allowed for matches where life gets in the wayv
  • NSWBA returns $10 to the NSW registered Home Club of each participant!

Go on, what are you waiting for? Enter via myABF (if you haven't already joined up, do so here).

If you are prepared to fly to Adelaide at short notice, please email events@nswba.com.au specifying the team(s) for which you wish to be considered. Applications from both pairs and single players are acceptable. Seniors must be born before 1/1/1961.
