Tournament Information

The NSWBA runs events at the Goulburn St premises, online on the RealBridge and BridgeBase Online platforms and in its affiliated bridge clubs around the state (See below for details.)

Congresses run by the NSWBA and its affiliated clubs are held throughout the year. The dates of these events are available on the NSWBA Congress Calendar.

STATE EVENTS

In 2023 State Championship events are being run by the NSWBA, Central Coast BC, Central Coast Leagues Club BC and Tomaree BC. Players from all clubs may play in any of the State events.

All clubs are invited to participate in the State Mixed Pairs, State Open Pairs and State Open Teams Championships and also the State Wide Pairs and State Under 100MP Pairs Championship conducted by the NSWBA each year.

State Events

EVENTS RUN BY THE NSWBA

INTERSTATE TEAMS SELECTION (ITS) - 2023

The NSWBA will send 4 teams to the Australian National Championships in Perth, 9-14 July to compete in the Open, Women's, Seniors' and Youth Interstate Teams.

The Interstate Teams Selection events run in four separate divisions - Open, Women's, Seniors' and Youth. Seniors must be born before 1/1/1961 and Youth must be born on or after 1/1/1998.

Sessions are to be played at either the NSWBA or online on the RealBridge platform. See the Supplementary Regulations for further details.

Open I.T.S.

Stage I: Mondays 30 January, 6 & 13 February, online on the RealBridge platform
Stage II: Mondays 27 February, 6 & 13 March, online on the RealBridge platform
Final: Saturday 18 March & Sunday 19 March

Women's I.T.S.

The Women's I.T.S. will be held over a single weekend:
Friday 31 March, Saturday 1 April & Sunday 2 April
If more than 18 pairs enter the event will be played in 2 stages:
Qualifying: Friday 31 March
Final:
Saturday 1 April & Sunday 2 April

Seniors' I.T.S.

The Seniors’ I.T.S. will be held over a single weekend:
Friday 21 April, Saturday 22 April & Sunday 23 April
If more than 18 pairs enter the event will be played in 2 stages:
Qualifying: Friday 21 April
Final:
Saturday 22 April & Sunday 23 April

Youth I.T.S.

Wednesdays 26 April & 3 May, 6.30pm (2 sessions)

ITS SWISS PAIRS

Swiss Pairs with Butler scoring. Held in parallel with the Open ITS Stage II, Mondays 27 February, 6 & 13 March, online on the RealBridge platform. All players are welcome.

GNOT NATIONAL FINAL QUALIFYING EVENT

A 5 week knock-out teams event (28 board matches) with Swiss repechage (14 board matches) Mondays 20 & 27 March, 3, 17 & 24 April, online on the RealBridge platform. Two teams qualify directly to the National Final, held on 1-4 December. One seventh of the field will qualify for the GNOT Metropolitan Final to be held on 5-6 August. Gold masterpoints.

STATE MIXED PAIRS QUALIFYING

A 2 week match-pointed pairs event Mondays 1 & 8 May, online on the RealBridge platform. Non-mixed pairs may play in the qualifying rounds. The NSWBA will pay the entry fee to the week-end final on 20-21 May for the top 6th of the field.

ANC BUTLER PAIRS

A 4 week Butler pairs event commencing Monday 15 May, online on the RealBridge platform. Entry fees to the Australia Butler Pairs Championship, which will be held in Perth in July, 2023, will be awarded to the pairs that come first and second.

CITY OF SYDNEY TEAMS

A 3 week Board-a-match teams event commencing Monday 19 June, online on the RealBridge platform. Every team scores either 0, 1 or 2 on each board.

STATE OPEN PAIRS QUALIFYING

A 2 week match-pointed pairs event Mondays 10 & 17 July, online on the RealBridge platform. The NSWBA will pay the entry fee to the week-end final on 18-19 November for the top 6th of the field.

JOHN ARKINSTALL STATE OPEN TEAMS QUALIFYING

A 4 week teams event commencing Monday 24 July, online on the RealBridge platform. Two teams will qualify directly to the State Finals to be held online on the RealBridge platform on 24-26 November. Up to 3 teams will receive free entry to the Jacaranda Teams Congress on 8 October. Teams from the affiliated clubs, representing the metropolitan and country regions also qualify for the Finals.

TIM SERES NATIONAL PAIRS

A 2 week matchpoint pairs event Mondays 21 & 28 August, online on the RealBridge platform.

MATCHPOINT SWISS PAIRS

A 3 week Matchpointed Pairs event with matchpoints converted to VPs commencing Monday 4 September, online on the RealBridge platform.

STATE MIXED TEAMS

A 3 week Swiss teams event Mondays 9, 16 & 30 October, online on the RealBridge platform. Each partnership must contain one female and one male player. Non-mixed teams may enter as non-contending teams.

STATE SWISS PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP

A 3 week Swiss pairs event with Butler scoring commencing Monday 6 November, online on the RealBridge platform.

SCHAUFELBERGER TEAMS

A 4 week Swiss teams event with scoring based on a combination of IMPs and board-a-match commencing Monday 27 November, online on the RealBridge platform.

OTHER EVENTS

GRAND NATIONAL OPEN TEAMS

The Grand National Open Teams is an Australia-wide event conducted by the Australian Bridge Federation Inc (ABF). It is the only opportunity for players to earn Gold Masterpoints in their local club. The National Final will be held on 1-4 December. The NSWBA is the organising body for all regions in NSW and will send 22 (TBC) teams to the finals, 7 (TBC) of the teams coming from the Sydney Metropolitan region and the remaining teams from elsewhere in NSW. TEAMS OF THREE CONGRESS - 4 June

Three players enter and randomly draw a Master player as their fourth for the day. Only simple bidding systems may be used and no Grand Masters may enter (except as team captains). The captain will play two matches with each of the team members.
