Congresses run by the NSWBA and its affiliated clubs are held
throughout the year. The dates of these events are available on the Calendar.
In 2017 State Championship events are being run by the NSWBA, the Southern Highlands Bridge Club, the Bowral Bridge Club and the Illawarra Bridge Association. Players from all clubs may play in any of the State events.
All clubs are invited to participate in the State Mixed Pairs, State Open Pairs and State Open Teams Championships and also the State Wide Pairs
and State Under 100MP Pairs Championship conducted by the NSWBA each year.

EVENTS HELD AT THE NSWBA (MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS)
NEW YEAR MASTERS TEAMS
A Swiss teams event. The field will be split into three prize pools: teams
containing silver and gold grandmasters, teams without silver or gold
grandmasters, and teams without any grandmasters. Prizes will be awarded to the
winning team in each pool.
A fun night of trivia open to all. Questions will cover the usual topics: history, geography, literature, music, TV, film, current affairs, sport, science, etc.
INTERSTATE TEAMS SELECTION (ITS) - 2017
The NSWBA will send 4 teams to the Australian National Championships in Canberra, 16-21 July to compete in the Open, Women's, Seniors' and Youth Interstate Teams.
The Interstate Teams Selection events run in four separate divisions - Open, Women's, Seniors and Youth. Seniors must be born before 1/1/1959 and Youth must be born on or after 1/1/1992.
Stage I: Mondays 30 January, 6 & 13 February
Stage II: Mondays 27 February, 6 & 13 March
Final: Saturday 25 March & Sunday 26 March
The Women's I.T.S. will be held over a single weekend.
Qualifying: Saturday 4 February
Final: Sunday 5 February
The Seniors’ I.T.S. will be held over two weekends.
Qualifying: Sunday 9 April
Final: Saturday 22 April Sunday 23 April
Sunday 23 April (2 sessions)

ITS SWISS PAIRS
Swiss Pairs with Butler scoring. Held in parallel with the Open ITS Stage II. All players are welcome.
CITY OF SYDNEY TEAMS
A teams event. Format yet to be decided.
Matchpointed pairs. Players are encouraged to invite players who are not regular Monday night players.
STATE MIXED PAIRS QUALIFYING
A match-pointed pairs event. Non-mixed pairs may play in the qualifying rounds.
The NSWBA will pay the entry fee to
the week-end final on 27-28 May for the top 6th of the field.
ANC BUTLER PAIRS
A Butler pairs event. Winners of the Open and Women's fields will receive grants (in the form of having their
entry fees paid) to attend the ANC Butler Pairs in Canberra on 22 July, 2017.
GNOT NATIONAL FINAL QUALIFYING EVENT
A knock-out teams event (28 board matches) with Swiss repechage (14 board
matches). Two teams qualify directly to the National Final, held from 24-27
November. One seventh of the field will qualify for the GNOT
Metropolitan Final to be held on 23-24 September.
STATE OPEN PAIRS QUALIFYING
A match-pointed pairs event. The NSWBA will pay the entry fee to the week-end final on 18-19 November for the top 6th of the field.
STATE SWISS PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
A Swiss pairs event with Butler scoring.
JOHN ARKINSTALL STATE OPEN TEAMS QUALIFYING
A knock-out teams event with Swiss repechage. One team from the knock-out and two teams from the Swiss will qualify to the Finals to be held 8-10 December. Five teams from the affiliated clubs, representing the metropolitan (2), outer metropolitan (1) and country (2) regions, also qualify for the Finals.
WOMEN'S TEAMS OF THREE
A teams event. Teams of three women are allocated an experienced player as a mentor.
MATCHPOINT SWISS PAIRS
A Matchpointed Pairs event with matchpoints converted to VPs.
STATE MIXED TEAMS
A Swiss teams event. Each partnership must contain one female and one male player. Non-mixed teams may enter as non-contending teams.

GRAND NATIONAL OPEN TEAMS
The Grand National Open Teams is an Australia-wide event conducted by the Australian Bridge Federation Inc (ABF). It is the only opportunity for players to earn Gold Masterpoints in their local club.
The NSWBA is the Organising Body for all regions in NSW. The National Finall will be held in Tweed Heads on 24-27 November and the NSWBA will send 20+ teams*, 7 of the teams coming from the Sydney Metropolitan region and the remaining teams from elsewhere in NSW. * Actual number of teams will be determined in January.
BRIDGE FOR BRAIN RESEARCH CHALLENGE - First week of May
All clubs are invited to participate in the 2017 Bridge for Brain Research Challenge and support Neuroscience Research Australia. The ABF has approved red masterpoints at B4s level.
TEAMS OF THREE CONGRESS - 21 May
Three players enter and randomly draw a Master player as their fourth for the day. Only simple bidding systems may be used and no Grand Masters may enter (except as team captains). The captain will play two matches with each of the team members.
AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - 15-27 July
The ANC rotates around the states and territories on an 8-year cycle and in 2017 BFACT will be holding this prestigious event in Canberra. Players must be prequalified for the ANC Teams Championships. For full details, see www.abfevents.com.au/events/anc/2017/
