Congresses run by the NSWBA and its affiliated clubs are held
throughout the year. The dates of these events are available on the Calendar.
In 2018 State Championship events are being run by the NSWBA, the Southern Highlands Bridge Club, the Bowral Bridge Club and the Illawarra Bridge Association. Players from all clubs may play in any of the State events.
All clubs are invited to participate in the State Mixed Pairs, State Open Pairs and State Open Teams Championships and also the State Wide Pairs
and State Under 100MP Pairs Championship conducted by the NSWBA each year.

EVENTS HELD AT THE NSWBA (MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS)
NEW YEAR MASTERS TEAMS
A Swiss teams event, Wednesday 3 January & Monday 8 January. The field will be split into three prize pools: teams
containing silver and gold grandmasters, teams without silver or gold
grandmasters, and teams without any grandmasters. Prizes will be awarded to the
winning team in each pool.
INTERSTATE TEAMS SELECTION (ITS) - 2018
The NSWBA will send 4 teams to the Australian National Championships in Hobart, 29 July - 3 August to compete in the Open, Women's, Seniors' and Youth Interstate Teams.
The Interstate Teams Selection events run in four separate divisions - Open, Women's, Seniors and Youth. Seniors must be born before 1/1/1959 and Youth must be born on or after 1/1/1993.
Stage I: Mondays 22 & 29 January, 5 & 12 February
Stage II: Mondays 26 February, 5 & 12 March
Final: Saturday 17 March & Sunday 18 March
The Women's I.T.S. will be held over a single weekend.
Qualifying: Friday 6 April
Final: Saturday 7 April & Sunday 8 April
The Seniors’ I.T.S. will be held over two weekends.
Qualifying: Sunday 22 April
Final: Saturday 28 April Sunday 29 April

ITS SWISS PAIRS
Swiss Pairs with Butler scoring. Held in parallel with the Open ITS Stage II, Mondays 26 February, 5 & 12 March. All players are welcome.
GNOT NATIONAL FINAL QUALIFYING EVENT
A 5 week knock-out teams event (28 board matches) with Swiss repechage (14 board
matches) commencing 19 March. Two teams qualify directly to the National Final, held from 30 November - 3 December.
One seventh of the field will qualify for the GNOT Metropolitan Final to be held on 15-16 September.
STATE MIXED PAIRS QUALIFYING
A 3 week match-pointed pairs event commencing 30 April. Non-mixed pairs may play in the qualifying rounds.
The NSWBA will pay the entry fee to
the week-end final on 26-27 May for the top 6th of the field.
CITY OF SYDNEY TEAMS
A 3 week Board-a-match teams event commencing 21 May. Every team scores either 0, 1 or 2 on each board.
ANC BUTLER PAIRS
A 4 week Butler pairs event commencing 18 June. Winners of the Open and Women's fields will receive grants (in the form of having their
entry fees paid) to attend the ANC Butler Pairs in Hobart on 4 August, 2018.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S PAIRS
A 2 week Matchpoint pairs event commencing 16 July. Mixed pairs may enter but will be ineligible for title or prizes.
STATE OPEN PAIRS QUALIFYING
A 2 week match-pointed pairs event commencing 30 July. The NSWBA will pay the entry fee to the week-end final on 24-25 November for the top 6th of the field.
JOHN ARKINSTALL STATE OPEN TEAMS QUALIFYING
A 4 week teams event commencing 13 August. One team will qualify to the Finals to be held 14-16 December. Other teams may qualify for the Metropolitan Final on 28 October.
Teams from the affiliated clubs, representing the metropolitan, outer metropolitan and country regions, also qualify for the Finals.
STATE SWISS PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
A 3 week Swiss pairs event with Butler scoring commencing 10 September.
MATCHPOINT SWISS PAIRS
A 3 week Matchpointed Pairs event with matchpoints converted to VPs commencing 8 October.
STATE MIXED TEAMS
A 3 week Swiss teams event commencing 5 November. Each partnership must contain one female and one male player. Non-mixed teams may enter as non-contending teams.
WOMEN'S TEAMS OF THREE
A teams event to be held on Sunday 11 November. Teams of three women are allocated an experienced player as a mentor.
A 4 week Swiss teams event with scoring based on a combination of IMPs and
board-a-match commencing 26 November.
GRAND NATIONAL OPEN TEAMS
The Grand National Open Teams is an Australia-wide event conducted by the Australian Bridge Federation Inc (ABF). It is the only opportunity for players to earn Gold Masterpoints in their local club.
The NSWBA is the Organising Body for all regions in NSW. The National Finall will be held in Tweed Heads on 30 November - 3 December and the NSWBA will send 22 teams, 7 of the teams coming from the Sydney Metropolitan region and the remaining teams from elsewhere in NSW. BRIDGE FOR BRAIN RESEARCH CHALLENGE - First week of May
All clubs are invited to participate in the 2018 Bridge for Brain Research Challenge and support Neuroscience Research Australia. The ABF has approved red masterpoints at B4s level.
TEAMS OF THREE CONGRESS - 20 May
Three players enter and randomly draw a Master player as their fourth for the day. Only simple bidding systems may be used and no Grand Masters may enter (except as team captains). The captain will play two matches with each of the team members.
AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - 28 July - 9 August
The ANC rotates around the states and territories on a 7-year cycle and in 2018 the
Tasmanian Bridge Association will be holding this prestigious event at the Tattersalls Park Function Centre, Glenorchy
in Hobart. Players must be prequalified for the ANC Teams Championships. For full details, see www.abfevents.com.au/events/anc/2018/
